    Advantages Of Nylon 6 Yarn

Nylon 6 yarn has the following excellent properties due to its structural characteristics:

    1 High Strength

The strength of nylon 6 yarn is the highest among the synthetic fiber yarns that have been industrially produced. The strength of ordinary wire is 4-6 yuan g/d, and the strength of strong wire is as high as 7-9.5 g/d, or even higher.

    2 Good Resilience

The resilience of nylon 6 yarn is excellent. For example, when the fiber is stretched by 3-6%, the elastic recovery rate is close to 100%, and when the fiber is stretched by 10%, it is 92-99%. In this state, the elasticity of polyester yarn is The recovery rate is 67%, 56% for acrylic yarn, 45-50% for vinylon yarn, and only 32-40% for viscose yarn.

    3 Good Wear Resistance

Among textile yarns, nylon 6 yarn has the best abrasion resistance, which is 10 times higher than cotton yarn and 20 times higher than wool yarn.

    4 Good Fatigue Resistance (Tire)

Nylon 6 yarn has good fatigue resistance, it can withstand tens of thousands of double flexures, and under the same test conditions, it is 7-8 times higher than cotton yarn and dozens of times higher than viscose yarn.

5 Good Alkali Resistance And Microorganism Resistance

Nylon 6 yarn has high stability to alkali. It is not affected by alkali at high temperature. Even if it is immersed in 10% caustic soda solution at 100°C for 100 hours, the fiber strength will be reduced very little. The resistance to the action of inorganic acids is very poor, and it has good resistance to the action of bacteria and microorganisms. It is resistant to corrosion, mildew, and insects.

    6 Good Dyeing Performance

Although the dyeing performance of nylon 6 yarn is not as good as that of natural fibers and man-made fibers, it is relatively easy to dye among synthetic fibers. It can be dyed with acid dyes, disperse dyes and other dyes.

    Disadvantages Of Nylon 6 Yarn

    1 Low Initial Modulus

The initial modulus of nylon 6 yarn is much lower than that of polyester yarn, so the fibers are easily deformed, the resulting fabric has poor stiffness, and the resulting tire is prone to flat spots, which will cause the car to run for the first few kilometers. produce turbulence.

2 Poor Heat And Light Resistance

The physical and mechanical properties of nylon 6 yarn vary with temperature. When the temperature increases, the strength and elongation decrease and the shrinkage rate increases. Its melting point is about 215 ℃, and its softening point is about 170 ℃, which is lower than that of nylon 66 yarn. The melting point of nylon 66 yarn is about 255 ℃, and its softening point is about 210 ℃. These conditions should be considered when ironing and heat setting. The safe use temperature of nylon 6 yarn and nylon 66 yarn is 93 ℃ and 130 ℃ respectively. The temperature of automobile tire cord is high in use, so it is necessary to add anti-aging agent.

    3 Lightfastness Difference

Under the long-term irradiation of light, the fiber color of nylon 6 yarn turns yellow, the strength decreases, and the non-optical fiber decreases more severely than the optical fiber. due to defects. For example, after 16 weeks of sunlight exposure of nylon 6 yarn, the strength of optical fibers decreased by 23%, and the strength of non-optic fibers decreased by 50%. Under the same conditions, the fibers of cotton yarn decreased by only 18%.

For the above main shortcomings, various methods have been studied in recent years, such as adding lightfast agent to improve lightfastness; spinning special-shaped fibers to improve appearance and hand feeling; using blending or copolymerization to improve the stiffness of its fabrics, etc.

The Main Use Of Nylon 6 Yarn

Nylon 6 yarn is widely used in both civil and industrial fields.

In civilian use, nylon 6 yarn can be spun and blended for various clothing materials and knitted products, especially its monofilament, multifilament and elastic yarn are more suitable for making various beautiful, comfortable and elastic socks. Nylon socks have good wear resistance, and a pair of nylon socks can be equivalent to 3-5 pairs of cotton socks.

In industry, nylon 6 yarn can be used to make industrial fabrics, ropes, tents, fishing nets, containers, covering fabrics, transmission belts, tire cords, parachutes and military fabrics. Among them, the advantages of a large number of tire cords are high strength and impact resistance.

The properties and uses of nylon 66 yarn are roughly the same as those of nylon 6 yarn except that the heat resistance and dimensional stability are better than those of nylon 6 yarn.

How Nylon 6 Yarn Is Made?

The most economical technique used in the manufacturing of nylon 6 nylon is a melt-spinning process, in this process, we feed nylon polymer chips, which are then melted a pump help to pump the melting nylon polymer to move through a spinneret. There is a grid (filter) at the base which allow only molten liquid to pass through. After this nylon melted polymers have to pass through a spinneret which has a different hole, the number of filaments required depends on oh these holes. After the cool air solidifies the nylon filament. Finally, the filament yarn is either wound directly onto bobbins or further treated for specific desired characteristics or end-use.  The advantage of the melt-spinning process is that most economical process and has a high production speed (275-1500 yds per minute).

    Nylon 6 Yarn Types

There are five main varieties of nylon 6 yarn. Fully drawn nylon yarn (FDY) and High Oriented Nylon 6 filament yarn (HOY) are both often used in warp and weft knitting and weaving. Nylon 6 filament yarn DTY is intended to be texturized using partially oriented nylon yarn (POY). Draw Textured Nylon Yarn (DTY) is utilized for fashionable clothing because of its texture. The air-textured nylon yarn (ATY), also known as cotton-like yarn, is mostly utilized in athletic equipment, due to its strength, & breathable.

    Properties of Nylon 6

High tensile strength, flexibility, luster, and toughness are all characteristics of nylon 6 yarns. Nylon 6 Yarn are extremely resistant to abrasion, chemicals like acids and alkalis, and wrinkles. The nylon 6 yarn has a 2.4 % water absorption capacity. Nylon 6 yarn has a glass transition temperature of 47 °C. Nylon 6yarn is a synthetic yarn that is typically white, although it can be dyed in a solution bath before manufacture to provide a variety of colors. It has a density of 1.14 gm/cc and tenacity that ranges from 6 to 8.5 gm/den. It has a 215 °C melting point and, on average, can tolerate heat up to 150 °C. In comparison to polyester, nylon 6 filament yarn has good color fastness.

    Uses of Nylon-6 Yarn:

Nylon 6 Yarn is utilized in a variety of applications, but its main application is in textile. Nylon-6 filament yarn has 100% recovery at 4% extension, which makes it a suitable choice to use in sportswear, gym wear, and stocking. It is also a preferable option in organza fabric, chiffon, and Sherpa fabric.

    Stats & Price

Producing nylon 6 yarn is cheaper than other nylon types, such as nylon 66 yarn. The global nylon 6 production capacity reached 6.83 million tons in 2018, up from 4.4 million tons in 2014, and increased at a 7.7 percent CAGR (compound annual growth rate) from 2011 to 2018 as China expanded its nylon 6 capacity. China is the world's largest Nylon 6 producer, with 4.01 million tons installed capacity, accounting for 58.6 percent of total global output in 2018, in which about 1.5-2.0 million tons are used for nylon 6 yarn manufacturing. According to Statista, global capacity will increase to 8.86 million tons in 2024. Nylon 6 yarn price is about US$2.00-US$4.00/ kilogram.
